CSS MPT 2027 – Date, Format, Pass Marks & How to Prepare

FPSC issued a public notice on 19 August 2026 (Public Notice No. F.2-2/2027(MPT)/CE-II) announcing that the MPT for the CSS Competitive Examination 2027 would be held on 10 October 2026 (Saturday) instead of the earlier announced 27 September (Sunday). The stated reason was a protest announced for 27 September, and FPSC said the change was made for the convenience of candidates and to keep the test smooth and orderly.

The notice was explicit about one thing: only the date changed. All other terms and conditions for the MPT remain the same — which means the test centre you selected during registration is still your centre, and the rules that applied on 27 September apply on 10 October.

If any of your notes, screenshots, or calendar reminders still say 27 September, update them. And if you downloaded your admission certificate early, re-download it from FPSC's portal to make sure the version you print reflects the current date and details.

The MPT is the screening stage of the CSS Competitive Examination, conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission. It exists to filter the very large pool of applicants before the written examination: only candidates who pass the MPT are eligible to apply for the CSS written exam. It is not scored towards your final CSS merit — it is a pass/fail gate — but without clearing it, you cannot proceed in that year's cycle.

This is also why the MPT tends to catch people off guard. Many CSS aspirants spend months on essay writing and optional subjects and treat the MCQ stage as a formality. With 200 questions in a fixed time window, it isn't one.

• One minute per question sounds generous, but the paper is broad — you'll meet easy recall questions and slower analytical ones, and time can disappear quickly on the latter.
• A 33% pass mark is the minimum to qualify, not a safe target. Aim well above it, since exam-day nerves and unfamiliar questions usually cost marks.

The MPT is a 200-mark paper spread across a handful of broad areas. • Download and print your admission certificate from FPSC's portal, and check your roll number, centre and reporting details carefully. Re-download it if you saved an earlier copy.
• Confirm your centre and travel plan. Your centre can't be changed, so work out the route, timing and any overnight stay in advance.
• Carry your original CNIC along with the printed admission certificate. Photocopies are generally not accepted for identity checks.
• Read FPSC's MPT instructions on what you may and may not bring into the examination hall, including what's permitted for marking your answers.
• Sleep and logistics matter more than one more revision session. A 200-minute paper rewards focus in the final hour as much as the first.
